Cavity Wall Insulation - Smart Energy Homes Climabead

Cavity wall insulation is a type of insulation that is used to fill the cavity between the inner and outer walls of a building. At Smart Energy Homes we use the Climebead system it consists of small beads of polystyrene that are mixed with a special adhesive and then pumped into the cavity using specialised equipment.

The insulation material is injected into the cavity through small holes drilled into the outer wall of the building, typically at regular intervals of around 1 meter. Once the insulation material is injected, the holes are filled, and the wall is restored to its original appearance.

If your house was built after 1930 its more likely that you will have a cavity wall rather than a solid wall. A cavity wall is a wall made of two walls with spacing in-between (a cavity). if it was built before 2010 it probably wasn’t built with insulation but if it hasn’t already, can be retrofitted.

A typical Cavity Wall Insulation Installation could take between 1-2 days

Why insulate cavity walls?

Roughly 33% of all heat in your home escapes through the walls, with that in mind its no wonder that having the correct type of insulation could help reduce your energy bills. Properties could look to save up to £690 a year on their energy bills.

How does cavity wall insulation work?

Cavity wall insulation is a thermal material usually installed through the external wall of a property into the cavity (an empty space between the external and internal walls) to create a thermal barrier. This is done to reduce heat loss by capturing the air within the cavity and results in reduced energy bills.

Climabead - Smart Energy Homes

Climabead

The Climabead system also known as EPS beads or ECO beads is a form of insulation designed for cavity walls that consists of polystyrene beads expanded to a specific size and density, being injected by compressed air through an injector into a cavity, forming an insulating mass that, when set, provides a barrier giving permanent reduction in the heat loss of the external skin of the building.

Does cavity wall insulation cause mould?

Unlike other forms of insulation, Climabead has been designed with the harshest of British weather in mind. Thanks to its spherical shape and non-absorbent material not only does it allow the property to breath but any moisture that manages to find its way into the cavity naturally slides down the beads and is absorbed into the ground, preventing the build-up of any damp

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is cavity wall insulation?

Cavity wall insulation is a process of filling the gap or cavity between the inner and outer walls of a building with insulating material to improve thermal efficiency.

What is the Climabead system?

The Climabead system is a type of cavity wall insulation that uses small beads made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) to fill the cavity.

How does the Climabead system work?

The Climabead system involves drilling small holes into the external wall of a building and injecting the EPS beads into the cavity. The beads fill the gaps and create a layer of insulation, reducing heat loss.

What are the benefits of using the Climabead system for cavity wall?

Some benefits of the Climabead system include improved thermal efficiency, reduced energy consumption, enhanced comfort levels, and potential savings on heating bills.

Is the Climabead system suitable for all types of buildings?

The Climabead system can be used in most types of buildings with a cavity wall construction, including residential and commercial properties. However, it’s best to consult a professional to assess the suitability for your specific building.

How long does it take to install cavity wall insulation with the Climabead system?

The installation time can vary depending on the size of the building and other factors. Generally, it can take between 1-2 days to install depending on the size of a property.

Is the Climabead system environmentally friendly?

Yes, the Climabead system is considered environmentally friendly. The EPS beads used are recyclable, and the insulation helps reduce energy consumption, leading to lower carbon emissions.

Can the cavity wall insulation cause dampness or condensation?

When installed correctly by a professional, the Climabead system should not cause dampness or condensation issues. The EPS beads used are water repellent, and proper installation techniques ensure that moisture does not penetrate the inner wall.

Will cavity wall insulation using the Climabead system make my home hot in summer?

Cavity wall insulation helps regulate the temperature inside your home, making it more energy-efficient. It can provide insulation during both hot and cold weather, helping to keep your home comfortable throughout the year.

How long does cavity wall insulation with the Climabead system last?

The Climabead system is designed to be long-lasting. With proper installation and maintenance, the insulation can last for several decades, providing ongoing energy-saving benefits.
