Solar Panel and Battery Installation in Caldicot, Monmouthshire

Smart Energy Homes recently completed a solar panel and battery storage installation at a property in Caldicot, Monmouthshire, helping the homeowner take greater control of their energy usage and reduce their reliance on grid electricity.

The customer was exploring home improvements that could deliver long-term savings and increase energy independence. With rising electricity costs remaining a key concern, they were particularly interested in generating their own renewable energy and storing excess electricity for use later in the day.

Following a detailed survey, our team designed a solar and battery system that maximised the available roof space while delivering strong generating and storage capacity for the property.

Understanding the Property

The customer approached Smart Energy Homes looking for a renewable energy solution that would help reduce electricity bills and provide long-term value for their home.

As part of the consultation process, we discussed several design options and reviewed the property’s roof space, energy requirements and future goals. The customer was especially interested in battery storage and wanted to maximise the amount of solar generation available from the roof.

Project Overview

  • Location: Caldicot, Monmouthshire
  • System Type: Solar PV & Battery Storage
  • Existing Solar System: No
  • Primary Goal: Reduce electricity bills
  • Battery Storage Required: Yes
  • Decision Timeline: Within 3 months
  • Funding Method: Exploring finance options
  • Motivation: General home improvement and lower energy costs
The Recommended Solution

Following our survey, we recommended an enhanced solar and battery package that made the most of the available roof space.

The installed system included:

Solar PV System

  • 17 x DMEGC 465W All Black Solar Panels
  • System Size: 7.905kW
  • Mounting Type: Roof Mounted

Battery Storage

  • Fox ESS EP12 Plus Lithium-Ion Battery
  • Battery Capacity: 11.52kWh

Inverter

  • Fox ESS H1 G2 Hybrid Inverter
  • Inverter Size: 6.0kW

This configuration was selected to maximise solar generation while providing substantial battery storage capacity, allowing excess electricity generated during the day to be stored for use during evenings and periods of lower solar production.

Why This System Was Chosen

During the design process, two system options were presented to the customer.

While a smaller system was available, the homeowner preferred to maximise the available roof space and generate as much renewable electricity as possible. For this reason, our recommended 7.905kW system was selected.

By increasing the number of solar panels and pairing them with a larger battery, the system is designed to:

  • Maximise solar generation
  • Increase self-consumption of electricity
  • Reduce reliance on imported energy
  • Improve long-term savings potential
  • Future-proof the property

Installation Process

The Smart Energy Homes team completed the installation over two days.

The project included:

Installing 17 roof-mounted all-black solar panels
Fitting the Fox ESS hybrid inverter
Installing the 11.52kWh battery system
Connecting and commissioning the system
Performance testing and customer handover

Once installed and commissioned, the system was fully tested to ensure optimum performance and reliability.

The Benefits of Solar Panels and Battery Storage

Solar panels allow homeowners to generate renewable electricity directly from sunlight, helping to offset household energy consumption.

When paired with battery storage, homeowners can store excess electricity generated during the day and use it later when energy demand is higher.

Benefits can include:

  • Reduced electricity bills
  • Improved energy independence
  • Greater use of self-generated electricity
  • Reduced reliance on the grid
  • Lower carbon emissions
  • Increased control over household energy usage

Battery storage is particularly attractive for homeowners looking to maximise the value of their solar investment and make better use of the electricity they generate.
