Air Source Heat Pump Installation in Ystradgynlais, Powys

Smart Energy Homes recently completed an air source heat pump installation at a property in Ystradgynlais, Powys, helping the homeowner transition away from oil heating and towards a more efficient renewable heating solution.

The customer approached us after experiencing high energy costs and wanting to reduce their reliance on traditional fuel sources. Having explored the benefits of renewable heating, they were keen to understand whether an air source heat pump could provide a long-term solution for their home.

Following a detailed property assessment, our team recommended and installed a Grant Aerona 290 6.5kW Air Source Heat Pump, along with a new hot water cylinder and smart heating controls.

Understanding the Property

The homeowner was looking for a way to reduce heating costs while moving away from oil heating. With energy prices remaining a concern, they wanted a solution that could provide reliable heating, lower carbon emissions and improved efficiency.

Following a survey of the property and existing heating system, we confirmed that an air source heat pump would be a suitable replacement for the existing oil-fired setup.

The Recommended Solution

After assessing the property’s heating requirements, Smart Energy Homes recommended a Grant Aerona 290 6.5kW Air Source Heat Pump.

The chosen system was designed to provide efficient and reliable heating throughout the home while helping the customer reduce their reliance on oil.

System Installed

  • Air Source Heat Pump: Grant Aerona 290 6.5kW
  • Hot Water Cylinder: Grant Quick Recovery 2 Single Coil 180L Cylinder
  • Heating Controls: Grant Aerona 290 Smart Controller

The heat pump was installed externally between the kitchen and lounge areas, while the new hot water cylinder was located within the airing cupboard.

Installation Process

Our experienced heating engineers completed the installation over two days.

The project included:

Installation of the Grant Aerona 290 heat pump
Installation of the new hot water cylinder
Integration of smart heating controls
System testing and commissioning
Customer handover

Once installed, the system was thoroughly tested and optimised to ensure it delivered efficient and reliable performance.

Taking Advantage of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

A key benefit of this project was the homeowner’s eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme supports homeowners making the switch from fossil fuel heating systems to low-carbon technologies such as air source heat pumps. This funding helped reduce the upfront cost of the installation and made the transition to renewable heating more accessible.
